XP lamps and penguin points: what they are worth at your level

An XP lamp does not give a fixed amount of experience. It gives an amount that depends on the level of the skill you rub it on, so the same lamp is worth far more on a high skill than on a low one.

The four sizes

A small XP lamp is the base value. A medium lamp gives twice that, a large lamp four times and a huge XP lamp eight times. At level 1 a small lamp gives 66.3 experience; at level 99 it gives 8,872.1, and at 120 it gives 12,891.5.

Rub lamps in order, and each one counts at your new level

A lamp is valued at your level at the moment you rub it. If one lamp takes you over a level, the next lamp is worth the new level's amount. A stack of lamps is therefore worth slightly more than the first lamp's value times the count.

Open Herblore at level 85 in the experience table. A small lamp there gives 5,762.2 experience and a huge lamp 46,097.6. Level 86 is 339,198 experience away, which takes 59 small lamps. Enter your own lamps by size to see the experience they give and the level they reach.

Penguin points

Penguin Hide and Seek gives penguin points, which you can hold up to 250 of. Each point is worth one small lamp at the level of the skill you choose, or 10,000 coins. Ten points at level 99 give 88,721 experience or 100,000 coins.

Whether experience or coins is the better choice depends on what that experience would cost you to train. On a skill where 88,721 experience costs more than 100,000 coins in supplies, take the experience. On a skill that is cheap to train, the coins may buy more. The penguins move every week, so the resets tracker keeps the hunt on your weekly list.

Which skill to use them on

Because a lamp is worth more at a higher level, using it on the skill you have trained furthest gives the most experience. Using it on a low skill gives less experience but may be worth more to you if that skill is expensive or slow to train. The experience table shows both numbers side by side, so you can compare before you choose.
