RuneScape Reignited: launch date and how it differs from Veteran characters
RuneScape Reignited is a permanent character type that launches on 2 December 2026. A Reignited character starts from the beginning in a new economy, with its own Grand Exchange and hiscores, and no progression can be bought. It plays in the same worlds as every existing character, which from then on is called a Veteran character.
Do existing characters have to restart?
No. Existing characters carry on as Veteran characters, and their progress keeps its value. A character can never change type in either direction.
New characters choose between Veteran and Reignited from 2 December. Any character created before that date is a Veteran character and stays one. A player who wants both keeps the Veteran character and starts a separate Reignited character at launch.
What do Veteran and Reignited characters share?
| Veteran character | Reignited character | |
|---|---|---|
| Shared worlds | Yes | Yes |
| Reignited-only worlds | No | Yes |
| Chat with both types | Yes | Yes |
| Trade with Veteran characters | Yes | No |
| Trade with Reignited characters | No | Yes |
| Grand Exchange | Veteran exchange | Reignited exchange |
| Boss instances | With Veteran characters | With Reignited characters |
| Clans and homesteads | With both types | With both types |
| Hiscores | Veteran hiscores | Reignited hiscores |
Gold swapping into or out of Reignited is prohibited, so a Veteran character has no permitted way to pass coins or items to a Reignited one.
Materials that are plentiful for Veteran characters may be harder to get on the Reignited exchange, whose economy starts from nothing. Grand Exchange prices today are Veteran prices and do not predict what a Reignited character pays or earns.
Does a Reignited character need its own membership?
Yes. Reignited is a character type in the way Ironman is, and it needs its own membership. Every Reignited character gets free access to members' worlds for the first ten days, from 2 to 12 December 2026.
What can a Reignited character buy?
Cosmetic overrides from the marketplace. Radiant Stars, which redeem for bonus XP in a skill of your choice, are not available to Reignited characters. Treasure Hunter left the game in January 2026, and by the 2 December launch no integrity-breaking MTX items remain for any character type.
Will the two economies merge?
Jagex has no predetermined plan to merge them and has set no cut-off date, while keeping the option open. New content is developed for both character types, so Veteran characters keep receiving updates alongside Reignited.
What else arrives on 2 December?
The same update brings the Adventure Guide and the first remaster of the early player journey.
The Adventure Guide is an optional, recommended path through the game. A player can pick it up at any point, from a new character to the end game, and leave it whenever they want to explore elsewhere.
The remaster covers the early journey from Tutorial Island through Seers' Village, Camelot and Elvarg's lair. Early quests such as Demon Slayer, Vampyre Slayer and Dragon Slayer gain boss fights with mechanics and health bars. Jagex is also reworking early skill pacing, the skill guides, the top-level menus and default settings for this update.
What is the Hall of Legends?
The Hall of Legends honours past heroes and records new world firsts. Every world-first achievement opens again, across combat, skilling, quests, exploration and a few lighter goals. The first player to reach one earns a permanent statue of their character and the achievement.
What has Jagex not announced yet?
How Ironman, Hardcore Ironman and Group Ironman work on Reignited is still unannounced. So are the Reignited membership price, any combat changes for Reignited, and whether bonds, XP lamps and Double XP exist there. Jagex plans to publish more before the 2 December launch, including its rules on cheating and fuller previews of the Adventure Guide and the remastered journey, and its Month Ahead posts announce when those previews appear.
